Heathen marked the first record cover collaboration between Jonathan Barnbrook and David Bowie – a partnership that went on to last until Bowie’s passing culminating in the design of Blackstar.

The design for Heathen was an exotic mixture of vandalised paintings – symbolising the desecrating acts that a ‘Heathen’ commits against society, and enigmatic photographs by Markus Klinko.
