Jonathan Barnbrook collaborated closely with David Bowie with this and all of his releases since the 2003 album Heathen. Blackstar was their final graphic collaboration before Bowie passed away. Some would say the peak of their partnership. There has been much written about the enigmatic design and the meaning of the elements within it, needless to say, it is an album package that reveals meaning over time rather than let you know everything straight away.

The design won Best Recording Package at the 59th Grammy Awards, Beazley Graphic Design of the Year at the Design Museum London, and the Grand Prix at the Tokyo Type Directors Club Awards 2017.
